5. Contributions to Course and Curriculum Development

    • Co-ordinated COM 500 Introduction to Graduate Studies in Communication and taught introductory section on critical/cultural theory for the first time.* 
    • Served as IPFW Campus Blackboard Faculty Fellow for Spring 2012.  Duties included supporting entire campus with faculty-to-faculty support, one-on-one sessions, development of model templates, and coordination with both CELT and ITS.  After every meeting with faculty, I solicited feedback.  Out of 26 responses, 21 responses rated our meeting as Very Positive and 20 responses rated the outcome of our meeting as Very Satisfied.  Of 21 responses indicating Very Satisfied when comparing various steps taken to resolve a problem, 17 identified contacting the Blackboard Fellow, 2 identified contacting CELT, and zero identified contacting ITS.

 

7. Unpublished Work Related to Teaching 

    • The 2012 Last Lecture: Clicked to Death: How the Technology-Educational Complex Is Destroying Higher Education, and What You Can Do About It. Communication and Media Society / Lambda Pi Eta.  IPFW.  Fort Wayne IN, 27 Apr. 2012.  Selected to give this lecture by student vote.

In the past year, I have chaired six graduate advisory committees, in addition to serving on other graduate advisory committees.

 

10. Student Academic Advising

In the past year, I have advised almost 60 students.  Most, though not all, have been graduate students.  In my capacity as Graduate Program Director in Communication, I maintain and update the website, an important repository for information related to the graduate program.  I have pioneered the use of blogs, wikis, and other social media to keep students updated about upcoming dates and items of interest.*

 

12. Teaching Awards

Named an IPFW Campus Blackboard Faculty Fellow for 2012-14, a two year commitment to assist the campus as it transitions from Blackboard Vista to Blackboard Learn.  The program ended after one semester due to budget cuts.

    • Invited to submit proposal for book-length manuscript for Hollywood, Nazism, and Globalization: Popular Culture and the Birth of the Holocaust Film, 1933-1945 to Northwestern U P as part of its new series, Cultural Expressions of World War II: Interwar Preludes, Responses, Memory.
    • Invited to submit 30-40 page essay on film for Antisemitism in North America: Theory, Research and Methodology for Jewish Identity Series (Brill).
    • Invited to submit 6000-8000 page essay for Oxford Handbook of the History of American Immigration and Ethnicity on Immigration, Race, and Ethnicity in Film (Oxford).

    • Received IPFW Senior Faculty Summer Grant for Summer 2012.  Spent month of June in Madison WI at the Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research conducting archival research with the United Artists Collection.
